***FULL MESSAGES FROM THE PARK DISTRICT OF OAK PARK
11/27/24
Dear Residents,
I am writing to invite you to Park District of Oak Park's Committee of the Whole Meeting on December 5, where a portion of this meeting will be dedicated to discussing the Field Center project. More specifically, Park Board Commissioners, Park District staff, and consultants will discuss updates and opportunities for the Field Center project based upon initial community feedback. We invite you (community members) to the meeting to hear how the Park Board is thinking about the Field Center project. This discussion will not include public participation as the purpose of this meeting is for the Park Board to flush out internal thoughts. Please note that no decisions will be made at this meeting.
The meeting will be held in the Community Room at the Park District's Community Recreation Center at 229 Madison Street. The meeting will start promptly at 7:30P and we invite you to join us.
Following this meeting, the Park District will hold another Community Meeting in January or early February where community members will have the opportunity to engage and dialogue, likely around different plans for the Center and the Park as a whole. We anticipate a highly productive exchange of thoughts and ideas. Once this meeting is confirmed, I will forward the details to you.
Wishing all a Happy Thanksgiving.
Best,
Ann Marie

Dear Residents,
The Park Board of the Park District of Oak Park would like to express our thanks for your interest and feedback as it relates to the Field Center project. We want to assure you that we have carefully listened to the feedback that was shared at the Field Center meeting on Oct 23 and subsequent Board Meeting on Nov 7. Notably, four of the five Park Board members attended the Field Center community meeting and appreciate the passion with which attendees spoke about the park which was echoed at the Board meeting.
Please know that the Park Board and Park District staff share the same goals expressed at both meetings: the safety of park users, the value of natural spaces in the park, the interest in keeping as many mature trees as possible, and the value of amenities like the berm, the gazebo, age specific playgrounds and natural play areas. That said, we are confident that through collaboration we can find the best solution.
As a result, the design work on the Center has been paused and we are examining different options. To help close the gap, we have outlined the following steps moving forward:
In summary, no decision has been reached on the Field Center, and we’re looking forward to additional dialogue with the community before finalizing the work on the Center and Park.
Sincerely,
Park Board of Commissioners
